Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera)  is also known as Indian ginseng.  It has been used for centuries in Ayurveda to treat tumors, ulcers, burns and wounds.  It has been use more recently for stress and cortisol management. But it may have a new use according to the latest studies conducted

A study was conducted to determine the effect Ashwagandha has on male physical fitness.  The 8 week study had half of a group of 57 men take 300 milligrams of Ashwagandha twice per day versus the other half taking a simple starch placebo.  Physical fitness was evaluated by recording one max reps of bench press and leg extension.  Additionally biochemical measurements were conducted of which was Testosterone.  Interestingly, the supplement group had a 74% higher bench press, 54% higher leg extension, 62% larger arms, 235% more girth in their chest and almost 5 times higher levels of testosterone.
